In 1999 she served as Governor Jebb Bush press secretary and later in 2000 she was communications director for Florida State Technology office.

She joined the white house staff during the time of George W. Bush as special assistant to the president and the director of media affairs. During the 2004 presidential campaign she was Bush’s campaign communications director and on 2005 bush made her the white house communications director. Her husband Mark used to represent Bush in United Nations.

On 2008 she served as senior advisor for John McCain in 2008 presidential campaign and she was seen on news as his spokesperson and defender.
