Jane joined WISH TV after graduating where she worked as a general assignment reporter for three years. She landed a job at Chicago’s WMAQTV an NBC station and she was the first woman to co-anchor a nightly news program on Chicago television. After ten months, she was assigned to succeed Barbara Walters as a cohost by NBC on TODAY show. This is when she had a major breakthrough and gained prominence. She dedicated her time and efforts on the show for 14 years. At first, she co-anchored with Tom Brokaw for 6 years and later with Bryant Gumbell. She also anchored the Sunday edition on NBC nightly news and often substituted for the weekend editions. After Pauley gave birth 1989 today’s news reader Deborah Norville a younger broadcaster was given replaced her.
