Hill kick started her career as production assistant for PC Week Radio in 1998. She was also the conference coordinator for Software Publishers Association Europe. In 2000 she joined Tech TV and worked in its News programs as a reporter and later as a co-anchor and correspondent.
In January 2003 she landed a job on CNN Headlines News Channel and worked as general News anchor for various programs. She moved to CNN News Source on 2004 and became its National Correspondent. She was the co-anchor of Prime News Tonight and later the anchor of Prime News with Erica Hill. From April 2005 she provided news updates for Anderson Cooper 360 and in February 2008 she became a full time member. She was also a co-anchor of CNN News Tonight.
She joined CBS News on September 22, 2008 as the co-anchor of The Early Show, Saturday Edition. later, she replaced Russ Mitchell on the weekday edition of The Early Show. On 3rd November 3012 she joined NBC News as a co-anchor of weekend today and also NBC’s National Correspondent. She left the Weekend Today show on 2016 noting that she wanted to spend more time with her family but continued working as daily reporter of daily news of NBC Nightly News.
She joined CNN’s HLN on June 6, 2016 as the anchor of daytime news program and her daily news program On The Story with Erica Hill launched on October 2016. On April 19, 2019 she rejoined CNN as lead fill in anchor and national correspondent.
