Following her graduation, Chang was hired by ABC News as a desk assistant in 1987. After few years of hard work and resilience she made her way up the rank becoming a producer and off air reporter for World News Tonight in 1991. Its then she won her first AI duPont Columbia Award for coverage of a series based on Women health.

In 1995, she move KGO-TV an ABC affiliate in San Francisco, and served as a reporter and upon spending one year there she moved back to another ABC’s affiliate NewsOne. There, she was positioned as Washington, DC correspondent. In 1998, Chang Moved back to ABC News reporting for World News Tonight. From that position she was promoted to anchor, World News Now and World News This Morning in 1999. This is where her Journey as anchor began and dominated proving to be one of best anchors in the World. In 2009 she began contributing to Nightline and Good Morning America and in 2011 she Left GMA to concentrate on Nightline as an anchor. on march 2014 she was took full responsibility on Nightline replacing Cynthia Mcfadden.
