Richard Roth is a respected American Journalist best known for his work at CNN as senior United Nations Correspondent. In addition he, is a New York City Correspondent. He is also famous for being one of the of the longest serving CNN journalist as he was part of the first employees CNN had after its launch in 1980.

Career

Roth’s journalism career began at AP Radio where he was a news anchor and reporter and WPIX-TV as a producer, both in New York City. In 1980 CNN was launched and Roth was employed immediately, as the deputy bureau chief and assignment editor based in New York. The following year he became the New York assistant bureau chief and from 1982-1986 he was serving as the Rome based bureau chief.

Roth hosted CNN’s special reports Murder by Numbers in 1992. He became the Senior United Nations correspondent in 1993 and hosted diplomatic license for 12 years until January 2006, when it was cancelled.

Some of his major reports includes: the 2008 presidential elections, the death of Michael Jackson, Overthrow of Communists government in Romania, Europe on The Brink, Tensions between United States and Iraq, The Iran nuclear crisis and more.

Kidney Transplant

On April 2022, Richard Roth underwent a successful kidney transplant which was donated to him by CNN’s deputy managing editor of Investigation unit, Samira Jafari. He had another transplant 25 years before which he had received from a deceased donor at had started to rapidly die inside of him.
