Jim Axelrod’s journalism career began in 1989 at WVII-TV in Bangor, Maine. Later the same year, he joined WUTR-TV in Utica New York and served as reporter till 1990 when he landed a reporter job at WSTM-TV in Syracuse New York. He worked at WSTM for 3 years then left for WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina where he worked for nearly 3 years.

CBS News hired Axelrod in 1996 as Miami based correspondent. During his time there he has worked in various posts like Dallas Bureau in 1997 from there he became New York Bureau correspondent in 1999 serving in that position until 2006 when he became Chief white house correspondent. In 2009, he became CBS News national correspondent. He has also served as the anchor of CBS Evening News, the Saturday Edition from 2012 to 2016. Currently Jim is serving as Chief Investigative and senior national correspondent and reports for all CBS’s broadcasts.

In his career, he has been recognized by multiple awards like Emmys, Alfred DuPont Awards, Peabody, George Polk, Edward R Murrow and more.

Additionally, Jim is an Author and has published a book named In The Long Run: A Father, A Son and Unintentional Lessons In Happiness in 2011.
