From working at WJZ-TV as a production assistant, she moved to WUSA-TV where she trained as a reporter in Washington DC. She found job as WDAF-TV in Kansas City, Missouri as anchor and general assignment reporter. From there she landed a news anchor job at WFSB in Hartford, Connecticut, and she worked there for 18 years.

She has worked for the Oprah Winfrey Show as special correspondent. Also, she worked for NBC as a co-host of a daytime talk show named Cover to Cover.

She has hosted her own show, named the Gayle King Show on XM satellite Radio in 2006 and on OWN in 2011. On November 17 2011, she was hired by CBS to anchor CBS This Morning alongside Charlie Rose and the show ratings were high. Previously she was working as a special correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America.
