Lester Holt is an American award winning journalist and is well known for anchoring news in NBC programs such as NBC Nightly News, NBC Nightly News Kids Edition, and NBC Dateline. He became the first man of color to anchor a weekday nightly newscast alone.

His career begun when he was working as a disc jockey at a country and western station and this was through his college years. He worked at CBS as a reporter, an anchor and an international correspondent for 19 years. He firstly was hired as a reporter at WCBS in New York City. In 1982 he left for KNXT in Los Angeles to work as a reporter and a weekend anchor. Later the next year he came back to WCBS as a reporter and an anchor. He joined WBBM TV in Chicago in 1986 where he anchored evening news for 14 years.

In 2000 Holt joined MSNBC and in 2003 he assumed his full duties at NBC news. He became a substitute anchor for NBC Nightly news and Today and later full time anchor of weekend today after the demise of David Bloom a co-anchor. The talented personality anchored the NBC Nightly news for 8 years and later replaced Brian Williams as permanent anchor of the weekday edition.

He has done a commendable job in NBC including interviewing president Trump in 2017 where fellow journalists said he asked appropriate but tough questions. Together with other NBC POLITICAL reporters Holt moderated a presidential candidate debate in 2016.
