Robin Roberts is an American journalist well known for anchoring Good Morning America an ABC News program. Before joining ABC she was a sportscaster at ESPN where she worked for 15 years. She has been active in her career since 1983.

She attended Pass Christian High School and graduated in 1979. She enrolled in Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana where she graduated with a degree in communication in 1983. While there, she was a standout performer in women’s basketball team and became the school’s third all-time scorer and rebounder with over a thousand career points. In 2011 the school held a ceremony to retire Robin’s jersey. She stated that she was once offered a scholarship at Louisiana State University to play basketball but declined it after visiting the campus because she thought it was too big and impersonal.

She was born in Tuskegee Alabama to Lucimarian née Tolliver and Lawrence E. Roberts who was a pilot and raised in Pass Christian Mississippi. She was born the last of four siblings namely; Sally Ann, Lawrence Jr. and Dorothy. Her older sister Sally was also an anchor at WWL-TV a CBS affiliate based in New Orleans.

Robin is married to her longtime lover Amber Laign who she dated for 18 years and announced the news on September 8, 2023 through their dog’s Instagram account. Her sexual Orientation is gay and she came out publicly on December 2013 through her workmates already knew about it. The couple does not have any child but they have a dog named Lukas. They both survived cancer with Robin beating breast cancer and undergoing through a bone marrow transplant and Laign beating breast cancer.

Robin Roberts Career
Roberts’s career began at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, Mississippi in 1983 where she served as an anchor and a reporter. Later in 1984 she joined WLOX-TV in Biloxi, Mississippi and in 1986 she moved to WSMV-TV in Nashville, Tennessee to work as an anchor and reporter. She joined WAGA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia in 1988 and served as sportscaster and reporter and was also a radio host at V-103 in Atlanta.
In 1990 she joined ESPN and also landed a reporting job on ABC News Good Morning America. She was promoted to co-anchor Good Morning America in 2005 and in 2009 George Stephanopoulos joined her as a co-anchor for GMA. They both led the program get to the top ratings and it became number one morning show overtaking NBC’S today.

- Anchoring the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor
- She anchored reports of Hurricane Katrina that hit hard her home town Pass Christian
- She hosted academy Awards for ABC in 2009 and in 2011
- She appeared in Disney’s Channel, Hannah Montana as a guest star in season 4 episode 10
- She was a guest host in Jeopardy’s 5 seasons
